RESEARCH
Student engagement is the continuous involvement of students in learning. It is a cyclical process, planned, and facilitated by the teacher, in which all students constantly move between periods of action and periods of reflection. Learning requires engagement in tasks that are structured and are sufficiently similar to allow for effective transfer of knowledge. (Marzano, 2004)

In successful schools administrators and teachers ensure that school time is used for focused instruction. Time is allocated based on school instructional goals and student learning needs.

3.6 a - In what ways does the school maximize the use of time for instruction

3.6a - Highly Functional
School leaders base all of their decisions about the allocation of instructional time on student achievement data,
policy compliance, and related research. Staff members have worked together to identify interruptions and barriers
to student learning and have successfully reduced or eliminated many of them.
